What’s your wave?

Social media, marketing, music, some writing here and there, women’s empowerment.

How did you get the vision to start your wave? Why?

I really got into social media in college when I started following accounts on Twitter that challenged my perceptions of the world. I became more and more hungry to learn about culture, politics, and identity from the perspectives of the most marginalized. Social media gets a bad rep sometimes, but it really is an incredible tool for global conversations and the sharing of information and I think these far outweigh the negatives. I’ve done work in social media for Red Bull Philly, Okayplayer, and now starting at The FADER. I’ve always been interested in music. I’ve been singing my whole life and am starting to play around with music software and equipment. I started building a little at-home studio to tinker with some things. I’ve always loved singing. I’ve always been pressured by others to put music out, but I recently came to the realization that it’s not something I want to do right now. I love to sing, but I don’t think that necessarily means I have to turn this talent into a product. Maybe I will someday, maybe not. I love music, I love singing, and I’m just enjoying it with no pressure on creating a product. I think there’s also a pressure to do things artistically when we’re young, and I let go of that belief as well. Solange put out her best work at 30. Prince was making music until he passed. Jay Z is making albums at 40+. We can do whatever we want. Maybe I’ll drop a fire record at 65.

What do you keep in your self-care kit?

The Office (show) – this show puts me back in the best of spirits if I’ve had a long, shitty day. It totally helps me wind down.

The gym – working out improves my mood SO MUCH. I’ve started getting into the habit of going even when I don’t feel like it, just because I know it’ll make me feel so much better after.

Nail polish – something about my nails lookin poppin makes me feel like I have my life together.

What is your all-time favorite sneaker?

What are 3 wavy words that inspire you?
