What’s your wave?
I’m an artist first, and I’m passionate about innovation and cultural preservation in our communities. I run a platform for creatives of color called Magiazine. It started as a digital ‘zine highlighting POC artists, but it’s evolved into something bigger, and I’m strategizing accordingly.
How did you get the vision to start your wave? Why?
I’ve always felt a deep sense of otherness, and realized I wasn’t the only person feeling that way. Brown people are historically disenfranchised, erased and misappropriated, especially in the media and especially in creative communities. I wanted to create a space where our visions were tangible, where our ideas matter. A platform where creative [people of color] wouldn’t be silenced, and could find the resources they need to thrive artistically..
What do you keep in your self-care kit?
1. Headspace App. Meditation is a major getaway for me, but it can get a little difficult when you’re scatter-brained. Headspace’s guided meditations help me get it together.
2. Essential oils (my favorites are sandalwood and eucalyptus).
3. Girl Scout Cookies.
What is your all-time favorite sneaker?
The Original Air Max 95
What are 3 wavy words that inspire you?
Bless, Believe, Manifest
